The Village Links of Glen Ellyn is one of my favorite Windy City courses, a beautiful blend of parkland and prairie nestled in the midst of the bustling western burbs, but the $77 top rate with cart may be pricey for frugal golfers. However, the Links offers a special "Happy Hour" walking rate of $100 per group, or $25 per person if you book a foursome (the 9 hole course can be walked for $48 total, or $12 each for four golfers). That is a fantastic discount to play this top municipal track. The Happy Hour rate is offered each day at a selected time period. For June, the times are:
18 Hole Course 9 Hole Course
11 am - Noon Monday 11 am - Noon
10 am - 11 am Tuesday 10 am - 11 am
10 am - 11 am Wednesday Noon - 1 pm
8 am - 9 am Thursday 11 am - Noon
7 am - 8 am Friday 10 am - 11 am
2 pm - 3 pm Saturday 11 am - Noon
3 pm - 4 pm Sunday 11 am - Noon
The times will change starting July 1st and at the beginning of each subsequent month thru October. You can find the monthly times on the Village Links website by clicking here. If you prefer to take a cart, add $18 to the greens fee, but even at $43 this is still a phenomenal deal.
The Village Links is a par 72 track that stretches out to a tournament worthy 7,200 yards, and it has hosted a number of local and national qualifying events, including the 2012 U.S. Open Sectionals. The 5 sets of tees caters to all skill levels, but the water on 15 holes, over 100 bunkers and wide swaths of prairie grass makes for a stern test from whatever tees are chosen. This is still an old school course without internet tee time booking, so you'll need to reserve a time by calling 630-469-8180. The Village Links is conveniently located on Park Avenue about 1/2 mile south of Roosevelt Road and 2 miles west of I-355, and is highly recommended by the Windy City Public Golfers Guide.

- Windy City Public Golfers Guide
- I am a life long Chicagoan and an avid golfer (or as much as my wife will let me!). And I am also a closet journalist who needed an outlet, so I decided to write reviews of the golf courses that I've played over the years in Chicago. Plus I've added detailed information on each course to help my fellow public golfers find the ones that best fits their skill level and budgets. So, read the reviews and use the comments to either give me a big "thumbs up" or tell me I'm full of crap, check out the courses and other pages, and let me know what you think... Mr Z
